Coaching, according to the International Coach Federation (ICF), is a supportive partnership where your coach helps you unlock your potential, set and achieve goals, and discover your own answers through thoughtful conversations and guidance.
What Coaching IS:
Supportive Partner: Your coach is like a supportive teammate, helping you explore your strengths, values, and goals.
Goal-Oriented: Together, you and your coach set clear goals and create actionable plans to reach them.
Unlocking Potential: Your coach believes in your abilities and encourages you to think creatively, overcome obstacles, and grow.
Listening and Questioning: Your coach listens attentively, asks insightful questions, and helps you find your own answers.
What Coaching is NOT:
Mentoring: Coaching is different from mentoring, where someone gives you advice based on their experience. In coaching, the focus is on your growth and self-discovery.
Telling You What to Do: Your coach won’t tell you what decisions to make or what actions to take. Instead, they empower you to make your own choices.
Consulting: Coaching is not consulting, where an expert provides solutions. Coaches don’t give solutions but help you find your own.
Therapy or Counseling: Coaching is not therapy. It doesn’t focus on past issues but rather on your personal and professional development. Naturally you may share something of past situations as they relate to the goals or outcomes you are working on. Coaching is forward-focused and goal-oriented, aiming to help clients improve their lives, whereas therapy is focused on addressing past issues, resolving psychological challenges, and promoting emotional well-being. Both coaching and therapy can be valuable, depending on the individual’s needs and goals.

E came to coaching feeling uncertain about her niche and the direction she wanted to take in her life and business. Having gone through significant life changes—such as a divorce, moving countries, and starting a new job during the pandemic—she was searching for clarity on how to use her personal experiences to help others. E felt she had a powerful story to share but wasn’t sure how to articulate it or make it meaningful to others.
Exploring Her Life Story: In our sessions, we delved deeply into E’s life experiences. Through reflective questioning, she recognised that she had overcome many challenges, from navigating divorce to relocating to a new country, traveling extensively, and starting anew in a pandemic-stricken world. This exploration helped her realise the strength and resilience she had cultivated throughout her journey.
Uncovering Patterns and Themes: As we continued our conversations, Katia noticed a recurring pattern in her life—her ability to step outside of her comfort zone and face difficult situations head-on. My questions encouraged her to reflect on these common threads, revealing a personal framework of courage, calculated risk-taking, and an unwavering belief that she would always find a way forward.
Crafting Her Niche: With these insights, E was able to define a clear niche for her coaching practice: helping women who had gone through life transitions such as divorce, relocation, or career changes. By sharing her own story of resilience, she realised she could inspire and guide others through similar journeys, using the same framework that had brought her personal growth and transformation.
Self-Discovery and Empowerment: What made these sessions powerful was the space for her to be fully heard. I provided a calm and supportive environment where she could process her experiences without judgment. Rather than offering advice, I used reflective questioning to help her go deeper, empowering her to find her own answers. This process allowed her to unlock a new level of self-awareness and understand the overarching theme of courage and growth in her life.
E gained clarity not only about her niche but also about her core identity. She recognized that she had consistently faced fear, embraced change, and taken action, no matter the circumstance. This newfound understanding gave her the confidence to share her story and support others in similar situations.
Key Outcomes:
E’s journey of self-discovery through coaching allowed her to tap into the themes that had shaped her life and form a clear, actionable niche. By listening, reflecting, and encouraging her to go deeper, coaching gave her the space to uncover her unique story and purpose.
If you’re feeling uncertain about your direction, or if you’re seeking clarity in your personal or professional life, coaching can help you uncover the patterns and strengths that lie within you. Reach out today for a session and begin your journey of self-discovery!
Challenge: Overcoming Guilt and Rediscovering Balance: Duration: 3 x 60 minute sessions
E.H came to coaching feeling uncertain about her life direction. A naturally caring and giving person, she had spent much of her time supporting a charity, helping her elderly parents, and looking after adult siblings with health issues. However, after experiencing poor health herself and supporting her husband through surgery, she realised that she needed to step back and prioritise her own well-being. Despite this, she struggled with feelings of guilt and the pressure to continue caring for others, often at the expense of her own wellbeing.
Identifying the Challenge: During our initial sessions, we discussed the pressures and obligations E.H felt in her caregiving roles. She was torn between wanting to continue supporting others and the realisation that she needed to take better care of herself. This internal conflict left her feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about how to move forward without neglecting her needs.
Self-Reflection and Guilt: Through reflective questioning, E.H began to understand the root of her feelings of guilt. She often felt obligated to take care of others, even when it came at the detriment of her own health and well-being. Together, we worked on reframing her mindset, helping her recognise that self-care was not selfish but necessary. This shift in perspective allowed her to see that she could still be a supportive figure in others’ lives while also prioritising herself.
Creating Balance: E.H realised that she didn’t have to choose between helping others and taking care of herself. We explored ways she could enjoy her passions, like crafting and singing in a choir, without feeling guilty about stepping back from some obligations. This also involved her setting boundaries and cutting back on certain caregiving roles, allowing her to focus on her own well-being. She began asking for help, understanding that she didn’t have to carry the burden alone.
Implementing Practical Steps: To help her feel more grounded, E.H started incorporating small, manageable habits into her routine, such as drinking more water and resuming her exercise regimen. These simple changes gave her a sense of control over her health, making her feel calmer and better prepared for her husband’s surgery. She also found a way to stay involved with her charity in an unofficial capacity, which was more sustainable for her current situation.
E.H came out of coaching feeling much more balanced and in control of her life. She realised that she could still care for others while also prioritising her own self-care. By letting go of unnecessary guilt and learning to ask for help, she was able to find joy in activities like crafting and singing in a choir, even if it meant missing some obligations.
Key Outcomes:
E.H’s journey through coaching helped her realise that she could care for herself and others without feeling overwhelmed or guilty. By setting boundaries, prioritising her health, and rediscovering activities that brought her joy, she was able to reclaim balance in her life. Coaching provided her with the tools to navigate this transition and empowered her to make sustainable changes that improved her overall well-being.

Client: Creative Business Owner (One-off session)
Challenge: Feeling Stuck and Unmotivated in Her Creative Business
Duration: One 60-minute coaching session
This client, a creative business owner and mother of young children, came to the coaching session feeling stuck and unmotivated. She was struggling to balance her business with her family life and felt pressure to continue pushing her creative projects forward despite feeling disconnected. Her energy was low, and she felt a sense of guilt about not giving her business the attention she thought it deserved.
Identifying the Core Issue: During our one-off session, we explored what was truly weighing her down. As we talked, it became clear that her current focus was more on her family and creating meaningful memories with her children. She realised that her business was no longer the priority in this season of her life, and she needed to give herself permission to step back without guilt.
Reframing Her Focus: By shifting her mindset and acknowledging that her family and personal creative projects were her true priorities right now, she felt an immense sense of relief. Instead of feeling stuck, she embraced the idea that this time was about nurturing her family and using her creativity in ways that supported her home life, rather than pushing her business.
Immediate Action: With this newfound clarity, the client took immediate steps to share her story with her audience. She explained that her business projects would be on hold and communicated her focus on family life and creative endeavors related to that. This decision lifted a weight off her shoulders, allowing her to fully embrace her current phase of life without pressure.
The coaching session provided her with clarity and the freedom to realign her priorities. By choosing to focus on her family and personal creative expressions, she regained a sense of purpose and direction. This led her to communicate authentically with her audience and take action that felt aligned with her values.
Key Outcomes:
This one-off coaching session helped the client shift her perspective, realising that it was okay to step back from her business and focus on what truly mattered to her in the present—her family and creating memories. The relief she felt gave her the energy to take decisive action, leaving her feeling lighter and more purposeful.

Our sessions helped her stay positive, despite setbacks, and reinforced the importance of viewing each rejection as a step toward the right opportunity.
