Just coached a mum-to-be on preparing mentally for motherhood, balancing self-care, and working on her side business. We touched on baby routines, inspired by The Baby Whisperer, and how even with the best plans, babies don't always follow them. I've heard mums call their babies 'bad' for doing this. I find it sad, because I don't believe babies are being bad, I believe they are expressing they have an unmet need (usually physical or emotional). It got me thinking about us as adults, sometimes we create routines and set goals but don't achieve them. We can find ourselves being harsh and calling or seeing ourselves as 'bad'. And again I'd say we aren't being 'bad' or failures or losers BUT there is an unmet need that is expressing itself in behaviour and thought patterns that don't serve us. Often, unmet needs show up in our behavior—whether it's self-sabotage, perfectionism, or people-pleasing. So if you're finding yourself held back in some areas of life first off, remove the judgement. No more name calling yourself! If you need to, speak forgiveness over yourself and move forward with kindness and grace. Secondly, get reflective and curious. Enquire of yourself. What is this behaviour showing me? What is at the root of this? What may have happened in my life that caused me to see life this way and create these "patterns of protection?" How would I like to move forward? Who do I want to be now? As we uncover and face the deeper inner stuff, that's when we start to see change and transformation. It's not easy, sometimes it's really painful to address but on the other side comes more confidence, freedom and being the truest version of you. The call helped her see that her focus for now was actually her family and creative endeavours related to that and creating memories.
